Why is Calendar Practice Important?
When I was homeschooling my oldest, teaching the months of the year and days of the week seemed simple – so simple that I wasn’t as consistent as I should have been. When I later realized that he still wasn’t fully comfortable with the months and days, I created these calendar practice sheets for reinforcement. While it might seem like a given that children should know the days of the week and months of the year, there are also important skills a child can learn from this besides just memorizing the names. Understanding a calendar can also support with:
- Understanding the Concept of Time: Helps children understand how time is organized and how it flows.
- Planning Ahead: Teaches children to think ahead, anticipate future events and make plans.
- Time Management: Helps children manage their time, set goals, and meet deadlines.
- Fostering a Habit of Routine: Teaches children to establish routines, improving organizational skills.
This activity was created to help your little learners master skills like:
- Learning days of the week
- Learning months of the year
- Counting from 1 to 31
- Writing the date
- Observing the weather

- Involve the whole family: Do this together with a parent or other children – it can also be a great opportunity for older kids to teach younger kids!
- Consistency is Key: Daily practice is important to reinforce the concepts and create a strong foundation.
